Captiva Island:
Captiva Island is located on the
Intracoastal Waterway at N210 35" W0820 15" just off the
west coast of Fort Myers, Florida, in the Gulf of Mexico. It is easily
accessible from a causeway that connects nearby Sanibel Island with the Florida
mainland and a small bridge that connects Captiva with Sanibel. Captiva is the last
island that is accessible by car.
The water temperature and sea
breeze in the Gulf of Mexico have a moderating effect of Captiva's temperature
providing it with the some of the best year-round climate in Florida. Captiva
has significantly cooler summers, and warmer winters, than mainland Florida.
